An aquarium is relaxing to watch and a great first pet for many families. A little patience at the start makes it much easier.
Set up before you buy fish
Fill the tank, add the filter and heater, and let it run for a few weeks so helpful bacteria can grow. Your local fish store can test the water.
Start small
Add a few hardy fish first, then build up slowly.
Feed lightly
Give only what your fish eat in about two minutes, once or twice a day. Extra food clouds the water.
Weekly care
- Change about 10 to 20% of the water.
- Wipe algae from the glass.
- Check the heater and filter are working.
